relief efforts in the philippines

Raising up prayers and support for our world is a beautiful part of living as the Kingdom of God. Here’s an update from Nazarene Compassionate Ministries on the ongoing relief efforts in the Philippines:

Tropical Storm Trami (locally called Kristine) swept through the Philippines with strong winds, heavy rains, and flooding, which forced thousands of families to evacuate and seek refuge in temporary shelters. The storm caused widespread power outages, submerged homes, and damaged infrastructure in several coastal and rural areas. Many communities, especially those in vulnerable regions, are now facing the daunting task of rebuilding amid loss and displacement. Schools, churches, and community centers have become hubs for emergency assistance, offering shelter and food to families in need.

Nazarenes in the Philippines are stepping in to care for those impacted. Rev. Macas, the District Superintendent of the Southern Tagalog District - Church of the Nazarene Philippines, shares that relief efforts are now moving beyond immediate aid: “We’re shifting gears from immediate relief to deeper restoration efforts in Banyaga. As we prepare to conduct trauma debriefing sessions, our focus now is on creating Child-Friendly Spaces for the children. These spaces will provide a safe environment where kids can begin to process their emotions and experiences.”

He also spoke about the quiet resilience of the mothers in the community: “We’re organizing sessions for mothers, who, despite putting on a brave front, have silently carried the weight of this tragedy. We’ve seen the sadness and fear in their eyes—emotions that words can’t always express.”

Please continue to lift up these communities in prayer. Through God’s grace and our support, may they find healing and peace.
