Jesus Took Naps: Be Like Jesus!
Jesus Took Naps: Be Like Jesus!
The world glorifies busyness, but Jesus modeled something countercultural: rest. In Mark 4:38, we see Jesus in the middle of a storm, asleep on a cushion in the boat. His disciples were panicking, but Jesus? He trusted God so deeply that He rested—even when chaos surrounded Him. Jesus took naps. Be like Jesus.
From the very beginning, God designed rest as holy. In Genesis 2:2-3, after creating the world, God rested. He didn’t need rest, but He established it as a rhythm for us. Rest is not weakness; it’s worship. It acknowledges our dependence on God rather than our own strength.
In the Church of the Nazarene, we talk about sanctification—about living a life fully surrendered to God. Sanctification doesn’t just call us to avoid sin but also to embrace God’s commands, including rest. Are you tired of striving? Exhausted by the endless cycle of busyness? God’s invitation to Sabbath is His gift of grace for your soul and an act of full trust on your part!
Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). Rest is not just a pause; it’s a declaration of trust. It says, “God, You are in control.”
If Jesus, the Savior of the world, took naps and prioritized rest, we can too. Rest refreshes us for the good work God calls us to do. So, take that nap. Embrace Sabbath. Trust the Lord of the Sabbath and let Him restore your soul.
